In addition to an excellent team of teachers, Lyceum Kennedy offers additional language support to help students strengthen their second language to the point where they can fully participate in all English and French programs with native speakers. Lyceum Kennedy academic support programs are small in class size. This class structure provides our students the support needed so they can learn more fluidly and feel more confident.
ESL: English as a Second Language (ESL)
ESL classes are small (1 to 12 students) and are designed to teach English to non-native English speaking students. The goal of ESL instruction is to enable students to develop socially and academically, while achieving competency in the English language and eventually being integrated into the regular English classroom. The ESL teacher collaborates closely with the student’s English teacher in order to harmonize the themes of their lessons.
FLE classes are small (1 to 12 students) and are designed to teach French to non-native French students. The goal of FLE instruction is to provide students the basic oral language skills that cannot be acquired outside of school and to reinforce their oral and written mastery of the French Language. A tailored plan for each student is created based on his/her level and needs.
Students who do not speak French (and who have not attended a French Pre-school program) will participate in our Transition Class (Ardsley Campus) (click here)
Reinforcement Class ~ Soutien
The primary goal of the reinforcement/soutien class is to support students who are struggling in math, reading, and/or writing. Students in reinforcement class receive one-on-one or small group tutoring designed to help them strengthen the specific skills need to succeed in English class or French class.
